Bouncin' up and down as we watched the passin' scenery
Travelin' with the circus as we made our way across the country

Well I can hear that railcard rollin' down that iron line
Those train tracks poppin' and a clackin' synchopated 4/4 time
It was my first lullaby as a child of the wanderin' kind

Now my Mama was a Sideshow Star divine
700 pounds of gorgeous wrapped in luscious so fun
The audience sure did love her and she...loved my Daddy and Me

Now my Daddy he worked with the pachyderms
Feedin' and a waterin' and carin' for 'em like they were kin
Elephants been in my life right from the git

A happy family travelin' together so free
Beloved Sweet Marie and her precious daughter, oh come see!
Who could want more in life than we had? oh we lucky, three.

Then came the fire in the big tent
My Daddy lost his life protectin' the elephants
My Mama and I watched him as he disappeared into the smokey sky

Travelin's cross the country 'til we came to a town by the sea
A California girl is what I was destined to be

It wasn't long before Mama knew what she had to do
She couldn't care for me three years old and runnin' fro and to
The lady at the agency knew just what to do

I'll never forget the look in her eyes
I cried and wailed as we said our last goodbyes
and then she too flew away into the sky

That feelin' inside as she sobbed and walked away
